Punjab's Challenges

Understanding the critical issues facing Punjab and the urgent need for change

Present Context

Despite its glorious past, Punjab faces deep challenges that demand urgent introspection and collective action. Punjab, historically the land of valor and agriculture, is at a crossroads. Once India's growth engine, it now faces economic stagnation, drug abuse, migration, and social & political instability.

Being a border state, Punjab's peace and prosperity are crucial for the country's internal stability and external security. The answer lies not in criticism or agitation, but in a positive, Punjab-centric movement that channels the state's energy toward constructive action.

Economic Decline

Agriculture share in Punjab GSDP has fallen from 57.3% (1970-71) to 23.22% (2022-23). Industrial confidence has declined with investors shifting to other states.

Key Issues:

  • Farmers face mounting debt and water depletion

  • Low agricultural diversification

  • Uncertainty and infrastructure gaps deterring investments

  • Limited job creation and innovation

Youth Unemployment

Youth unemployment stands at 20.2% (PLFS 2024-25), far higher than the national average, creating frustration and hopelessness.

Key Issues:

  • Lack of skill development opportunities

  • Limited entrepreneurship support

  • Brain drain to other states and countries

  • Youth seeking purpose beyond employment

Drug Menace

Over 15% of Punjab youth are affected by substance abuse, creating severe social and economic paralysis.

Key Issues:

  • Youth lost to addiction and crime

  • Families destroyed by drugs

  • Health system overwhelmed

  • Community trust eroded

Migration & Brain Drain

Lakhs of youth are migrating abroad each year, leading to demographic imbalance and emotional disconnect from roots.

Key Issues:

  • Loss of talented youth from the state

  • Villages emptying of working-age population

  • Weak social bonds and family structures

  • Loss of cultural continuity

Identity Crisis & Polarization

Growing polarization and political instability have distorted the true meaning of Punjabiyat and Sikhism, often framing them in narrow or negative terms.

Key Issues:

  • Erosion of shared cultural identity

  • Increasing societal divisions

  • Political instability and mistrust

  • Disconnection from spiritual values

Why These Challenges Matter

For Punjab

These interconnected challenges have weakened Punjab's social fabric, eroded community trust, and left the state directionless. The spirit that once defined Punjabiyat — courage, compassion, and collective progress — has been dimmed by despair and division.

For India

Punjab's stability is not just a regional matter — it is a matter of national importance. As a border state, Punjab's internal harmony directly impacts India's security, stability, and prosperity. When Punjab falls into despair, India's strength is compromised.

"When Punjab trembles, India feels the shock. When Punjab rises, India stands stronger."

This is why Gall Punjab Di is essential — not as a political movement, but as a civilizational reawakening.

Today, Punjab Bleeds

• Nasha (drugs) steals our youth

• Migration empties our villages

• Politics divides our hearts

Yet, the land of the Gurus can never truly fall — it only waits for a new awakening.

Our Response

Gall Punjab Di recognizes that Punjab's challenges are interconnected — economic, social, cultural, and emotional. Addressing them requires a holistic approach that goes beyond policy fixes.

We must rebuild Punjab's spirit from within — restoring pride, purpose, and prosperity through a civilizational reawakening rooted in our timeless values of service, truth, and justice.
